Task 5

TASK 5: TREATMENT

Dennis Publishing states they are dynamic, innovating and sources of inspiration, information and entertainment. 24 goes above and beyond to achieve and maintain these features in all of our work. 24 would be a great addition to Dennis Publishing as we are a very promising, up and coming magazine, targeted at socially conscious 16-25 year olds.

Gal-dem is an independent British online and print magazine produced by women of colour and non-binary people of colour. They are committed to sharing the perspectives of minorities. As a woman of colour I am able to use this magazine to convey my progressive views and opinions, much like gal-dem. I have chosen Gal-dem as inspiration for 24 as they have categories such as culture, horoscopes, politics and lifestyle - topics which are of interest to other 16-25 year olds. Gal-dem finds balance between current affairs and lifestyle, which produces an intriguing, yet informative magazine.

Rife Magazine is the second chosen inspiration for 24. Rife Magazine is an online magazine that supports young people to have their voices heard. I found the diversity and articles appealing, as I believe representation is key as you are more inclined to read something if you see yourself represented in it, and the articles touch upon less talked about subjects, for example'The history of human zoos.' I appreciate how Rife Magazine delves into the controversial, almost taboo side of history and aim to educate their audience instead of attempting to repress these negative aspects of history. They shine a light on people of colour and people of different cultures and faiths which is positive and allows members of the audience to understand each other's viewpoints and situations. However, something I would alter about Rife is the website. There seems to be a rather minimalistic layout which doesn't mean it is massively eye-catching. 24 will use bold, bright colours, pictures and a range of fonts and sizes to intrigue the reader

Aspects to consider. 24 will be priced between 50p-£2, I aim to make it available to everyone, so as many people are included as possible. Regarding content, it will be based upon current affairs, but not simply things such as politics. Current affairs can range from current films out, to the latest music and products. I aim to deliver a mixture of current affairs and lifestyle topics to maintain reader engagement. The website will be interactive, featuring both audio and visual content to enhance the user's experience, and also cater to the hearing and visually impaired.
