Task 9

TASK 9: AUDIENCE EXPECTATIONS For this task, I conducted an online interview, taking voice recordings of 4 people's answers. I asked the question 'what would you want or expect to see in a current affairs magazine aimed at young adults?' Below is a youtube link to the answers I received. How can I apply this to my magazine? These answers have reinforced my plan to create the following segments: 1) Mental health -  Advice, stories of development and healthy coping mechanisms 2) The environment, sustainability & ethical issues - This covers fashion, animals and workers conditions, and how you can help 3) Feature articles based around the views and opinions of teenagers , these will change per issue - e.g. issue 1 is about teenagers and the pandemic, issue 2 is about POC teenagers 4) Politics - Somewhat in-depth current political issues, providing readers a brief comprehension of events such as Brexit, capitalism and socialist movements  5) Lifestyle - A segment titled ...

Task 8

TASK 8: AUDIENCE ANALYSIS To aid my research into the demographics and psychographics, I asked two typical Twentyfour audience members (An 18 & 19 year old, socially conscious male and female) some general questions. However these are commonly 'dig a little deeper questions', meaning they elaborate without question. For example the first member, when asked about her lifestyle she also revealed she is a small, up and coming artist. These answers provide me with general insight on the content that should be included in my magazine. With these answers and further general research into the issues of teenagers, I have compiled a list of what I will include in my magazine. 1) Mental health - Advice, stories of development and healthy coping mechanisms 2) The environment, sustainability & ethical issues - This covers fashion, animals and workers conditions, and how you can help 3) Feature articles based around the views and opinions of teenagers, these will change per issue - ...

Task 7

TASK 7: ANNOTATED FRONT COVER I have chosen Time as my annotated magazine cover. This is because they constantly have a diverse range of models, with meaningful and inspirational backstories. You can always learn from this current affairs magazine. I selected this issue as I strongly believe people of colour should feature in more magazines. This issue especially stood out to me as the model, Aisha, is an 18 year old woman who fled from abusive in-laws in Afghanistan, and had her nose and ears cut off as a result. Time magazine has given Aisha a platform, and with Twentyfour I wish to do the same.  What this has inspired me to include in my magazine  A range of diverse models  Issues that are not talked about enough to young adults, such as advice and signs of abuse  International issues Raw, unfiltered news A strong brand identity through text, fonts, logos and colours  Models who have a backstory and relate to specific articles, e.g. a POC model relating ...

Task 6

TASK 6: COLLAGE I have chosen a series of entertainment and culture based magazine covers as inspiration for my current affairs magazine. I have done this because I would like to use this vintage, bold style cover for my magazine, as I know it is successful when appealing to an audience of teenagers and young adults. Moreover, a vintage style is an uncommon trope of current affairs magazines, showing people that twentyfour is a fresh, original idea. Many teenagers are not intrigued by traditional current affairs magazines and their covers. However, if they were to see a vintage style cover they would instantly be more drawn in. I have applied the same style to my website, ensuring to uphold brand identity. Additionally, I appreciate how these front covers are not cluttered like a lot of typical lifestyle and current affairs magazine covers, I believe minimalism is key. Below are multiple magazine covers which I have taken inspiration from.

Statement of intent

Statement of intent  Product 1 – Magazine   I have chosen brief 3 of Magazines and Online. I am going to produce two magazine front covers and two contents pages to suit the target audience of a socially conscious 16–25, middle to upmarket demographic. I will make it suitable for retail distribution. I will use at least four different main images, using original photography. I will use multiple different models from a range of social groups, including ethnicities, genders and sexualities. I will name my magazine Twentyfour, it will be presented through the serif and sans-serif fonts ‘Playfair Display Bold’ and ‘Helvetica Bold’, paired with a white and black colour scheme. This will convey a formal yet aesthetically pleasing look to the magazine, which will appeal to my target audience. I will use a variety of cover lines using the same typography to uphold a consistent brand identity. An example of a coverline used will be ‘How to deal with the uncertainty of exams’, which wil...
